History of the Department

 

  • In 1967 - College was started for Diploma in Nursing Education Course with the annual intake of 10 Students.

  • In 1970 – B.Sc( Nursing) for Trained Nurses Course was started with annual intake of 20 students.

  • In 1980 – The number of seats for B.Sc( Nursing) for Trained Nurses was increased with annual intake of 30 students.

  • In 1983 – B.Sc( Nursing) for 4 Year Course was started with annual intake of 25 students.

  • In 1991 –The number of seats for B.Sc( Nursing) for Trained Nurses was increased with annual intake of 40 students.

  • In 1995 – M.Sc( Nursing) Course was started with annual intake of 8 students.

  • In 2008 – The number of M.Sc( Nursing) seats is increased from 8 to 22 students annually


The main Objectives of the College of Nursing are

  • Function as responsible individual and citizen through self-direction and self-evaluation.

  • Provide effective nursing care with professional competency by using the nursing process/problem solving approach to people of all ages in a variety of settings in health and illness.

  • Utilize the knowledge from physical, biological, behavioural sciences and humanities in the practice of nursing.

  • Initiate changes to improve the quality in the nursing practice by participating in the nursing research.

  • Work collaboratively with the members of the allied disciplines and community towards attaining optimum health for all the members of the society.

  •  Educate individuals and groups about health and related aspects.

  • Accept responsibility for continuing professional education and also to contribute for professional growth and development including professional organizations.

  •  Apply and practice the moral and ethical values in day-to-day personal and professional life and to render services with commitment.

  •  Demonstrate leadership qualities, decision making abilities and critical thinking power.


Physical Facilities

The College of Nursing is situated in the eastern wing of the Nurses’ quarters. The building has ground + three floors.
