Diploma in Diabetology

M.D. (General Medicine) from various medical colleges,  M.S. (Ophthalmology), Pharmacy students and student nurses.

Certificate courses

• Certificate course in Clinical, Therapeutic Nutrition and Food Service Management .
• Six months Dietary Intern Observership which is essential for the purpose of Registered Dietician for candidates who have completed B.Sc. Nutrition & Dietetics

Should have acquired MBBS Degree from a recognised University.

Diploma in Diabetology – 2 years

Common Entrance Examinations conducted by the Selection committee ,Directorate of Medical Education and Counseling.

University Examination details

Theory Examination

The students sit for the university examination at the end of the 2nd year and write 3 papers followed by a clinical and viva voce examination as per regulations of the Medical Council of India.

Practical Examination

(a) Clinical Patient presentation/discussion:

(i) One long case: The long case will be structured comprising – history taking, clinical examination, investigations, decision making, proposed treatment modalities, ethical justification and personal attributes.

(ii) Three short cases: The short cases will also be structured in which only one particular system may be considered and therapy decision/discussion, made.

(b)  Dissertation and Log book Evaluation

CME on Diabetes Mellitus

The department regularly organises Guest Lectures from eminent diabetologists & Current updates & CMEs – once in two months in association with Diabetes Association of India (Southern Chapter)

• A CME program on Role of Incretins in the management of Diabetes Mellitus in August 2009 .

• The Institute of Diabetology & MMC DAA (MMC Diploma in Diabetology Alumni Association)organized a 2- day Annual Conference on  recent trends in Diabetes Mellitus at Kodaikanal on 10th & 11th October 2009

• Dr.P.Dharmarajan, attended 44th EASD( European Association for Study of Diabetes) Annual Meeting at Rome, Italy.in September 2008

• Prof.N.Rajendran, attended the International Conference on Endocrinology, Organised by Bakers Institute of Endocrinology, Melbourne, Australia February 2009

In addition the the faculty members regularly attend CME programs & Conferences organized by RSSDI (Research society for Study of Diabetes in India) & Diabetes Association of India .
